Scenes of Tranquility

Post by Nightflare »

The old man leaned on his walking stick as he wandered up the path overlooking Stonekeep. It was a strange feeling, this familiarity, something he hadn't felt in some time.

The man had little to his name, a small satchel of supplies, his trusty walking stick, and a genuine smile.

He offered a copper or two when he could to the beggars as he passed, and played with the children who always gathered around him, as if they had a sixth sense that said he was a good man.

What he didn't have, however, was a history or a name. The further back he could remember was about a year or so. He awoke on the side of the road, penniless and disheveled, without any recollection of who he was or how he got there.

The only thing he knew, like a compulsion, was that he was in this world to do good and help others, and so that's what he's done.

Still, not knowing himself was unsettling whenever he had pause to consider it, and this strange sensation of "home" as he entered Stonekeep brought back that feeling and his need to find out his own past.

Wandering Stone Keep, there was something all too familiar about the place. He seemed to instinctively know his way around, and people nodded and waved to him as if they were old friends.

His feet just kept moving him until he reached the Baron's keep itself. Walking the empty halls felt like coming home. He climbed the staircase up to the chancellors office and gasped, dropping his walking stick and just staring.

On the wall, there were several small portraits, the names mostly worn off from disrepair, but they were labeled as former chancellors of the city. An older portrait, tattered and likely centuries old, looked amazingly like him.

This made no sense. Could this be where he's from? He had to find out.

Speaking with a guard, who seemed confused at the questioning, he discovered that a lot of histories were moved to Silver Rock's library during the time Stone Keep was housing refugees from the quakes.

That had to be his next journey.
