Guild Charter - Review Period

Post by natalia »

Greetings Wizards!

With the upcoming changes to the guild structure, it has been called upon a review of the guild chapter. This is your time to make any changes to the current charter(See end of this post for a copy of the current charter). Also, stipulations needed to be added for the following things:
  • Elections - Counting of the Votes
  • GM Election - Term, Requalification(Vote of Confidence), Nominations, Removal of GM
  • GL Elections - Term, Nominations, Removal of GL's
  • Guild Members - Probation Status (Titles used, qualifications to be placed on probation), removal of Guild Members
  • Guild Items - Obtaining (Qualifications for each item)
  • Guild Patron - Obtaining, Retention
All of these items, plus anything the guild see's fit needs to be added to the guild chapter. Now is the time to speak up, be heard and make the decision for the future. For a reference, the Guild Charter has been in place for over an otherworldly 15 years with no major changes. It is now up to you to decide these changes and how they will shape the guild for the future.

I look forward to hearing all of your opinions.
A Wizard is one that joins the Wizards' Guild. Regardless of profession, they become wizards and strive to perfect the art of magic in all its forms. Perfection is the goal that all aspire, though it is recognised few will achieve.
The guild does not dictate how members should behave. We are a guild with broad membership that has many differing views on life. However, there is a commonality that draws people together under the umbrella of wizards. Those with widely differing views to these may find they are better served by another guild.
  • 1. Wizards are honest, thoughtful and respectful towards others at all times.
  • 2. Wizards are neither superior nor inferior to another person. All persons are different and offer a unique insight.
  • 3. Wizards practise the light side of magic. Greed and personal advancement at the cost of others are not concepts practised by wizards.
  • 4. Wizards are committed to learning and perfecting the art of magic.
  • 5. Wizards are urged to become friends with all in the guild. We unite under a common name and purpose. Together, as comrades, we shall further everyone's understanding and satisfaction of the World.
  • 6. Treat the guild as family.
  • 7. Wisdom is the greatest asset a Guild can have. Through wisdom and knowledge, comes power. The power to assist all those around us. Wizards are encouraged to learn from each other, to support each others quests for knowledge.
  • 8. Wizards know that the experience is best gained through personal achievement or co-operation within a group. Experience "earned" by hanging on to someone's coattails may increase your abilities but not your Wisdom.
  • 9. A wizard shall not inhibit another wizard's opportunity at achieving wisdom by giving out quest answers, though vague hints to the weary adventurer are permitted.
  • 10. Wizards do their best to support the guild and its members, providing The Wizard's Ethos is not broken in the process. Wizards are encouraged to share their ideas for and with the Guild.
  • 11. Wizards air their grievances within the confines of the guild. Public displays of disunity do not advance the guild and do not rectify the situation. A civilised meeting with patrons and leaders will solve difficulties far more effectively.
  • 12. The Ethos is the summation of a way of life, not hard and fast rules.
A wizard interprets the above and applies its spirit, not its word.

Guidance on any aspects of this Ethos can be obtained from Guild's Officers.

Wizards,

Here is the proposed charter update to our voting procedures. Please review and let me know if there are any questions/concerns/suggestions. Please don't take this as being dictated by me, this is only a starting point for discussion.
Elections – Counting of Votes
One vote per ‘account’

GM Elections
Terms
•    Each term is 12 OOC months with a Vote of Confidence at the mid-way point.
•    GM election triggered if GM has not been ‘active’ for a period of 21 days.
•    There is no limit on how many terms a GM can serve.
•    A GM removed by way of a Vote of Confidence or inactivity will be replaced by a GL. If there is more than one GL, the GL 'first in time' will be elevated to GM.
•    In the event that a GM is removed by a Vote of Confidence, but no member nominates themselves during the election and no active GL is available to replace them, the GM will retain their position.

Candidates
•    The current GM cannot run in the next election in the event they are removed following a Vote of Confidence or removed due to inactivity.
•    Members must nominate themselves in order to be a candidate in an election.
•    Candidacy is not limited to subscribed users, but the candidate must be registered by the time the voting period begins.
•    In the event the current GM wishes to remain for a further 12-month period, they must self-nominate.
•    In the event that there is only one candidate, that person is automatically made GM.

Vote of Confidence Process
•    Notice of pending Vote of Confidence is activated 14 OOC days prior to voting period opening.
•    Notice is added to GNOTICES and replaces the Guild Message of the Day (so seen at login).
•    After 14 OOC days, voting takes place with a simple Yes (remain) / No (remove) option.
•    If the majority vote Yes (remain), the process ends.
•    In the event it is a tie, the outcome should be determined by the 'best of three' in a coin toss.
•    In the event the majority vote No (remove), the election process is automatically triggered.
•    Voting takes place for 9 OOC days.

Election Process
•    Notice of pending election is activated 7 OOC days prior to nomination period.
•    Notice is added to GNOTICES and replaces the Guild Message of the Day (so seen at login).
•    After 14 OOC days, formal nomination period opens during which members can self-nominate. This period is open for a further 7 OOC days
•    Notice is added to GNOTICES and replaces the Guild Message of the Day (so seen at login).
•    After 7 OOC days (thereby 21 days for nomination purposes), elections will run for a period of 9 OOC days.
•    In the event there is a tie, the outcome will be determined by the 'best of three' in a coin toss.

GL Positions
•    There will be a maximum of three GLs at any one time (or a maximum number determined by GuildOps/Guild Patron).
•    The GM will be responsible for appointing the GLs.
•    GLs can ‘resign’.
•    GLs can be removed by the GM.
•    In the event that a GL has not been active within one OOC month, they will be automatically removed.

Wizards,

The new Guild Charter has been submitted to GuildOps for approval. There is still time for comments if you have any. There will also be opportunity to vote to change the charter in the future if there is enough support for it.
