Leave the Past Buried

Post by Kitten »

Blood dripped in rivers from pale blond fur, coloring the footprints of the dragonkin as she prowled into the guild. Even her wings were caked, the feathers weighted down to the point of being almost useless. Another day, another successful hunt. Exhaustion nipping at her heels, she headed for the hotspring, grateful that no one seemed to care if she used the spring to get the blood out of her fur and feathers. Dropping her weapons and pack in the corner, she made a note to get the leather cleaned and repaired soon; it was starting to look ragged, and was very blood-stained. Gratefully, she slipped into the spring, letting the heat soak into her aching muscles, her mind wandering.

"Always nice to know who I am shoulder to shoulder with in combat."

Servius’ words echoed in her head, nagging at her. Warlord Marcin had been asking her for a history for some time, but she’d been shying away from the task. She had no desire to think of the place she had come from, the past she had buried and left behind, carrying only her name into a new world. She felt the fury rise in the back of her throat as memories tumbled forth; the humiliation, the sense of being broken, of being held back, of being looked down on for her… condition.

Kit growled softly, shoving the memories back into their dark hole. Perhaps a bit too harshly, she scrubbed the blood from her fur, staining the water around her a deep crimson red. She needed to have a word with the Warlord, to ask him to let her leave her infuriating past where it belonged; dead and buried. In time, perhaps, she could even leave her name behind, and earn one that suited her better. For now, she was happy to be counted as a valuable sister amongst her brethren, rather than some broken thing in need of protecting.

She ground her teeth and climbed out of the spring, squashing the thought. This was her home now, and her future. That’s all that mattered. Giving herself a rough shake to rid most of the water from her fur and feathers, she grabbed her gear and headed to find the Warlord.
