Charter Approved

Post by fearecia »

Monks! Congratulations! Our Charter was finally approved! Some small modifications were made, so I am reposting the charter in its entirety below.

Monk’s Guild Officer (GO) Voting Charter

General Rules
  • Unless otherwise stated, there shall be no limits on the number of times a Guild member may hold a Guild Officer position; consecutive or otherwise.
  • Unless otherwise stated, all Guild elections shall be preceded by first a declaration period and then by either a voting period or a selection period, at which time the Guild Officer shall take possession of their post.
  • Unless otherwise stated, nominations will only be considered for registered Guild members in good standing, and will not be considered after the close of the declaration period.
  • Unless otherwise stated, the term “nominate” and all variations thereof refers to self nomination as defined in the relevant declaration period.
  • Exceptions to any of the rules and procedures outlined in this charter may be made at any time by an Immortal of Terris.
Guild Master (GM) Elections:

Declaration Period

The Monk’s Guild will vote on a new GM every six months (OOC time). All Monks in good standing who are registered have the right to run for the position. The official announcement will be placed on the Guild Message Boards, and will remain open for two weeks (OOC time). At this time, interested members may declare themselves as candidates by stating their intention to run. Fellow members have the right to question candidates in a civil, respectful way on the boards. At the close of the two week period, Guild members will no longer have the right to declare their intention to run for the election term.

Voting Period

Guild members will have the right to cast a vote to elect a GM during a two week period following the declaration period. Guild members may vote by using the “Guildvote” function. Each registered member in the Guild will be able to cast a single vote.

Guild Lieutenant (GL) Selections:

Declaration Period

The Guild must have one GL, but will have no more than three GLs. The decision to determine the number of positions will be made by Guild Leadership. An official announcement by the newly elected GM will be placed on the Guild Message Boards, and will remain open for two weeks (OOC time). At this time, interested members may declare themselves as candidates by stating their intention to run. Fellow members have the right to question candidates in a civil, respectful way on the boards. The GM has the right to interact with the candidates to identify the best "fit." At the close of the two week period, Guild members will no longer have to the right to declare their intention to run for the election term.

Selection Period

Rather than vote, the GM will select the GL using his or her judgment during a two week period following the declaration period. The GM is encouraged to review the postings and interact with candidates before making a selection choice.

Guild Master – Vote of Confidence Check:

The GM will be required to pass a “Vote of Confidence Check” 90 days after being elected. An official announcement will be posted on the message boards notifying members two weeks prior to when the voting period begins. This announcement will also be added to Gnotices and the Guild Message of the Day. The messages on Gnotices and GuildMoTD will be updated to reflect when the voting period is begun. Registered members in good standing will have the right to a single vote using the “Guildvote” function. The voting process shall last for 2 OOC weeks. If greater than 50% of the votes cast for “Yea” or "Affirmative" then the GM will retain his or her position. If not, then the GM will lose his or her position and the election process will start again in accordance with this Charter.

Guild Lieutenant Removal and Retention:

The GM retains the right to dismiss the GL from their position during the GM’s six month term after a 90 day “probationary period." The GM will not need to initiate a “Guildvote” to dismiss a GL, as he or she may do so at their discretion. If members have concerns about the performance of a GL, then they have the right to bring this to the GM's attention. The GM is encouraged to discuss the performance of the GL with the Guild members before removing one from office. There is no formal voting process with respect to GL removal. If a GL is removed by the GM, then the selection process outlined in this charter will resume. In addition, at the end of the GM's six month term the GL selection process will resume.

Probation and Removal of a Guild Member:

In the event that a Guild member commits a serious offense against the charter (See: Guild Charter), or general rules of the land (see: Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) ), then the Guild member is subject to Guild Probation as determined by the GM. Guild Probation is a serious matter and should not be ignored or taken lightly. However, probation is a tool for both parties to use to let the member know that they are being monitored to ensure that they do not repeat serious offenses again. Note that while on probation several penalties will apply including: (1) Access to Guild shops, (2) Participation in Guild voting, and (3) Ability to Guild tithe (see: Guild Probation ).
  • The probation period will last a maximum of 14 days, however a Guild member may be placed on probation for subsequent violations of the Guild Charter or general rules of the land should the GM deem it necessary.
  • It is expected that a GM (or GL) will hold a discussion with a Guild member that is being placed on probation so that the member understands why they are being punished, and the appropriate corrective actions.
  • If a member repeats the same offense, or commits multiple offenses (as a result of malicious intent, or lack of respect for our rules) then the Guild member may be subject to banishment from the Guild.
  • Banishment from the Guild may be performed by the Guild patron per recommendation by the GM. It is expected that Guild Leadership will be respectful to the Guild member being punished and not publicly humiliate said member.

Charter Changes:

A recommended change to the (voting) charter may be initiated by 2 guild members. To initiate a proposed change, the suggested change must be brought to the attention of the Guild Master or Guild Officer and then posted on the boards by the members seeking to initiate change. All those putting the change forward must list their names in favor of the change. Discussion will continue upon the boards for 2 OOC weeks. At the end of that time, the proposed amendment will be finalized and presented to the Guild Master. The Guild Master will make the final decision.

If the Guild Master wishes to initiate a change, they may do so alone. However, any changes initiated by the Guild Master must not only have 2 weeks of discussion on the boards, but also be subjected to an in-game vote. The voting period shall last 2 OOC weeks, with majority rules.
