Charter Amendment Discussion: GM Term

Post by fearecia »

Monks,

I'm officially initiating a charter amendment to change the GM term to 1 year, with a mandatory vote of confidence at the six month mark. With the current state of the lands, having a GM election every 6 six months seems like overkill. Initiating this change will also align us with most of the rest of the lands.

Discussion is welcome. An IC vote will be initiated 8/1/2019 and run for a period of two weeks.

The GM Term vote is now live. It will close on 8/14.

Next amendment open for discussion is in regards to GL elections/terms. I want to initiate this change also in reflection of the low lands membership.

Current text is:

Guild Lieutenant (GL) Selections:

Declaration Period

The Guild must have one GL, but will have no more than three GLs. The decision to determine the number of positions will be made by Guild Leadership. An official announcement by the newly elected GM will be placed on the Guild Message Boards, and will remain open for two weeks (OOC time). At this time, interested members may declare themselves as candidates by stating their intention to run. Fellow members have the right to question candidates in a civil, respectful way on the boards. The GM has the right to interact with the candidates to identify the best "fit." At the close of the two week period, Guild members will no longer have to the right to declare their intention to run for the election term.

Selection Period

Rather than vote, the GM will select the GL using his or her judgment during a two week period following the declaration period. The GM is encouraged to review the postings and interact with candidates before making a selection choice.

Guild Lieutenant Removal and Retention:

The GM retains the right to dismiss the GL from their position during the GM’s six month term after a 90 day “probationary period." The GM will not need to initiate a “Guildvote” to dismiss a GL, as he or she may do so at their discretion. If members have concerns about the performance of a GL, then they have the right to bring this to the GM's attention. The GM is encouraged to discuss the performance of the GL with the Guild members before removing one from office. There is no formal voting process with respect to GL removal. If a GL is removed by the GM, then the selection process outlined in this charter will resume. In addition, at the end of the GM's six month term the GL selection process will resume.

Requested Change:

Guild Lieutenant Selection:

The Guild shall or shall not have a Guild Lieutenant at the GM's discretion, but will not have more than three GLs at any one time. The decision to determine the number of positions will be made by Guild Leadership. Selections shall happen at any time during the GM's term as needed. Interested parties can express their desire to be GL directly to the GM.

Guild Lieutenant Removal and Retention:

The GM retains the right to dismiss the GL from their position at any time during the GM's term. The GM will not need to initiate a “Guildvote” to dismiss a GL, as he or she may do so at their discretion. In addition, at the end of the GM's term the GL selection process will resume.
