Proposed Charter Change & Voting Reform

Post by Kollin Byrne »

The Knights' Code

1. Honor and duty above all.

2. A Knight should show courtesy and consideration for others.

3. A Knight is the protector of the innocent and guardians of the weak. There is no honor in spilling the blood of the innocent.

4. A Knight should never steal the spoils of another adventurer's victory.

5. Help always those in need within reason, for one day the needy may be you.

6. There is no place for racism in the Knights' Guild. Everyone is different and we must learn to accept these differences.

7. While we may forgive, we never forget. This makes us prepared for the future and gives the edge in times of struggle.

8. It is the heart which guards the true Knight, not the armor protecting them.

-If there is still no resolution, guild ops will become involved.

Abandonment
Should the GM be absent for a 21 day period without advanced notice, they are considered to have abandoned the post. A GL will be appointed as interim GM until an election can be held to fill the vacancy as per the above.

Vote of Confidence

Should the members of the guild find that the GM is not performing the duties of the job, and other avenues have had no result, the members may call for a Vote of Confidence.

-A vote of confidence cannot be called 30 days(OOC) before or after an election (including VoC)
-Three knights in good standing, on separate registered accounts must post on the Knights Guild board requesting a vote of confidence and their reason for doing so. To trigger a VoC, these requests must be received within one week of the first.
-Each eligible knight may call for a VoC once every 90 days ooc.

Procedure:
-Should the VOC be triggered, a guildvote will be created and an official announcement will be posted on the message boards notifying members that a two week voting period has begun. Registered Knights in good standing will be eligible to one vote per account. If 50% or more of the guild vote for the GM to stay in office, the GM will retain the position.

-If the GM is voted out, a guildvote will be started to determine who will serve as GM for the remainder of the term. During the nomination period, those who called for the vote of confidence will automatically be considered candidates. Anyone eligible may nominate themselves as well, including the previous GM if they wish. The remainder of the procedure follows standard vote rules.

Guild Probation:

A Knight found to be in violation of the code or charter that requires disciplinary action may be subject to Guild probation at the discretion of the GM. Probation will last for a period no less than 2 weeks and no longer than 60 days (OOC time) depending on the offense and GM’s discretion.
Slaying of innocents, or benefiting from someone slaying an innocent is automatic probation.

Guild Member Removal:
In the event a member repeatedly and egregiously violates the code and or charter, shows no sign of changing or wanting to change, and guild probation does not deter the behavior, that member may be subject to removal from the guild by the GM.

You must complete the path to Knighthood to receive a specialized title from the guild.
All other titles can be kept or changed at the discretion of the GM

Changes to the Charter

If it is deemed necessary by the GM that a change to the charter is required, a message stating such should be posted on the boards with the proposed changes, allowing people to give their input on the matter.

Changes to the charter must be ratified by the membership by guildvote. One vote per knight per registered account. 2/3s majority is needed for the change to be in place.

Exception: Knight’s Code
Changes to the Knight’s Code will not be made without mandate or approval from guild ops.
Should this occur, the potential changes to the code should be posted and discussed.
After this, a guild vote will take place. If 3/4 of the guild approve, then the changes to the code will be adopted.

Knights,

As there were no other additions requested or feedback, and since there was a unanimous vote of approval this is the charter.

It is being reviewed, and it should be known that certain elements may need to change, for example:

The vote of confidence procedure will undoubtedly need to change to address the in game mechanics.

I will post anything that needs to change and propose amendments at that time, and we will discuss things further until we are ready to adopt.

Thank you again to all who have aided in this procedure.

-Kollin
