Brotherhood Charter

Brotherhood Origins

The Brotherhood was founded by the Toa-Sung branch of the Monk’s guild. They were a small temple set up in the mountains to the North near Hellegost.
When the great displacement happened and the Winternorth Mountains were filled with the howling snows this temple was cut off from the main guild, indeed it was cut off from everything.

The weeks turned to months that turned to years, when at last the snows eased up enough to allow the temple to be reached the monks guild members found the Toa-Sung branch had turned inwards for guidance. The terrible weather and isolation would have destroyed a lesser group of people.
Silence, reading, survival from nothing, empathy with desolation, embrace suffering to know its true worth.

These became the watchwords of the Toa-Sung, they had already thrown off the title of monks, and become a brotherhood, through the years a steady flow of adventurers had made their way to the isolated temple, often at the brink of death, these few were taken in and sheltered, through this simple system the membership of the Brotherhood was maintained.

When at last they could walk among the people once more it was clear to all that they were far removed from the ideals of the original Monks’ Guild.
During the next tea cycle it was decided that one of the ancient land bonds, gifted to the Monks’ Guild by the Sun Child should be cashed in, the money raised would be used to build the new guild house for the Brotherhood.

As is the way with the Brotherhood nothing seemed to be easy, it is claimed that the land bond rights were cursed, certainly the small village that was built on the ancient lands has suffered nothing but hardship, once the last stone was set the small village was lashed by harsh winds that carried snow through every window, so terrible was the storm that the new village was crowned “Wintertown". It was not long after the first harvest that a citadel of dark power was discovered, had the monks selling of the bond unleashed some ancient curse?

The brotherhood continued to look inward, finding strange potions and items through the use of body parts both monstrous and human. They increased self-awareness through the use of ancient scrolls that told of dark tales and long forgotten rituals.

Purpose
The purpose of our charter is to welcome those who have sought our enclave so they may better themselves physically, mentally, and spiritually. The Charter is an outline of conduct while you are within our halls, shelter is a privilege, and with that comes rules. Failure to obey the charter will have dire consequences and put you off course on your goals of enlightenment.

Behavior within the Guild
All those who enter our halls, regardless of their physical makeup, orientation, or faith, are to be respected at all times whether they are level 1 or level 300. Fighting and discord among ourselves is beneath us and will not be tolerated.
It is strictly forbidden to slay any of the innocents who toil within our halls. If you attack a guild innocent you can consider that an attack on the guild itself and punishment for such crimes will be severe.
The Guild innocents take great care and pride in the cleanliness of our sanctuary. Out of respect for their hard work, our ancestors, and your brethren, you are not to enter our halls mounted and your weapons are to remain sheathed unless in the defense of our guild. You will not hide yourself in any fashion within our sacred domain.

Behavior with Outsiders
While the great members of the populace outside our guild may have their misunderstandings about who we are, we tolerate their ignorance. You will show respect and rise above the pettiness of the outside world. Enlightenment is ours alone, we do not need to prove ourselves to the undeserving.

The land is filled with many Legends, Heroes, Heroines, and Immortals, each have done great deeds to attain their enlightened status. Each and every one of them should be respected as such for their accomplishments.

Defense of the Guild
If our Halls are ever to come under attack, all members are required to come to their defense. These are our walls and we will defend them at all costs. Showing these halls your indifference and disrespect will have dire consequences.

Guild Skills, Items, and Secrets
It is prohibited in sharing any of our items with outsiders for profit or otherwise. If there is abuse of our hard earned advantages they will be removed from our halls. Do not teach outsiders our ways or tactics. If they wish to learn from us let them enter our halls and prove themselves, if they are unwilling to better themselves then they are not worth our time. If you are privy to the knowledge of our secrets keep them close to your heart and off of your lips.

Tithe and Guild Gold
Having shelter is a great benefit to us it is here we train our minds and bodies to become as one. The Tithe and Gold we amass can be used for a multitude of things. Tithe is used to purchase Guild Luck. When in possession of Luck, you will find yourself in situations where the hand of Fate is less heavy on you than without. You will also see tremendous added benefits as you progress through your training when we are in possession of Guild Luck. The gold can be used for events, and the combination of the two could, in time, let us expand our halls.

Seeing as Tithe is crucial to us, upon joining the guild you are required to tithe at least 20% of your total experience at all times to the guild unless you are within 5 guild levels of your land level or until guild level cap of 255.

During Guild Events such as Hunts, and Training Sessions it is mandatory to tithe 100% of your experience, any gold acquired or items converted into gold will be deposited into the guild coffers. If members want an item dropped during these events for personal use, request it directly from the Guild Master or Master of the Event.

Guildlockers
The Guild locker as a whole is to house particular items and rewards for members completing tasks and noteworthy acts. Members and Elders are both encouraged to locker items for future use that may benefit future generations of our order. It is not to be used as your own personal locker as the Guild Master and Officers are the only ones that are able to access it to removal items and destruction of senseless items are the sole discretion of Guild Officers.

Guild Communications
Guild Shouts are to be for Guild related communications, if you shout make your identity known to all. Guild shouts are for greetings, departures, and guild business. If you need to speak to someone within the guild contact them directly.

Disputes
If you have a dispute with any fellow member of our guild you will take your grievance to either the Guild Master or Officers for resolution. Their decisions will be firm and fair to all parties.

If a dispute exists with the Leadership of the Guild, you may contact the Hero or Patron. Their decision is final.

Probation
Anyone who commits an offense (breaking a charter rule) can be put on probation for 1 to 4 OOC weeks depending on the severity.
Subsequent Repeated Offenses could result in Banishment from the Guild (based on severity).

Example Self Nomination Post:

It is my intent to run for the position of Guildmaster. I have been a member of this guild in good standing for quite some time and can honestly say that I believe that a change is needed. (State your reason for running, but do not be rude to others as this will not be tolerated)

Plan of Action:

I plan to bring about changes to activity in the guild officer ranks and ensure that events are running each month.

I also plan to restructure the Tutoring program, giving it a much needed overhaul and direction again.

I would like to see more guild wide activities and RP, so I will personally meet with the Patron to discuss possible events and develop an outline of future RP and active timelines.

In general, I plan to be as active as possible, generate activity in all aspects of the guild and work closely with the other leadership and the Patron to bring this guild to new glory.
