Last Revised: October 2014
The history of the Brotherhood explains that our ancestors were cut off from the rest of the world due to the great displacement, which brought blizzard-like conditions and deep snow in the mountains. The weaker members perished and the stronger members adapted and survived. Few adventurers made their way to the lonely temple. Always disdainful and suspicious of outsiders, the Brothers tested those that did. Only the strong of spirit, mind, and body were welcomed into the Brotherhood, those who failed to show their worth were never heard from again.
Resources were scarce during the hard winter in the mountains and they learned to survive through any means necessary. During their time separated from the rest of the world, they taught themselves to make use of what was available to them to focus themselves both physically and spiritually thus creating an unstoppable force that would propel them through any obstacle, flesh or otherwise. The Ancient Masters walked the path that is least traveled because it is the path that is the most difficult - where the mind, body and spirit is tested beyond all comprehension. Through the Kai’Tung, they have shared the discoveries, trials, and failures of their journey with their Brothers and Sisters, so they too may walk the hard path and become enlightened.
Through the changing of time, ages came and went. The peace of the realm, along with the luxury and opulence of its denizens, has led Norland to a state of complacency and washing away all willingness to strive towards the one true goal of enlightenment. The Brotherhood sees this as an affront to their beliefs and seeks to purge this sickness from the land. They will cut out the disease to save the body, no matter the cost.
The general public has a long standing belief of what the Brotherhood is. This belief has grown and never been denied because, to the Brotherhood, the opinions of outsiders are not worth disputing. Just as the Mountain does not concern itself with how the wind blows, or how the rain falls, the Brotherhood cares not what the meager minds of outsiders think of them. The Brotherhood strives to master themselves, uncaring of outside influences. Through the trials of life and those that they willingly subject themselves to, the Brotherhood refine their minds, bodies and spirits to the pinnacle of strength.
