Missing Orc?

Post by kamala »

Tranos. Not a city she liked much at all. Even when she knew where she was going, she always found herself turned around and disoriented. The walk through Tranos took her along Viper Junction to Gold Walk. This area was quite the wealthy bit of town. Couldn’t see how the thieves did not get into trouble having their guild so close to such wealthy patrons of the city. Maybe they had an agreement with them.

Most of the homes here show the sign of the Merchant’s guild outside of them, a warning that messing with one will bring down the wrath of the entire Merchant’s guild, not just the one family targeted. She had to tread carefully with this contract. There could be no connection between her and the target.

She stayed within the shadows as she entered the Merchant’s Guild amongst a small crowd that made it easier for her to get past the two guards just inside the door that were barring entrance to the east. She wondered what was beyond the large oak door, but she didn’t need to find out unless it had something to do with her contract. For now, she would keep going in.

The rich tapestries along the walls and red carpet made it easier for her to get through here. Her steps were silenced on the carpet, the narrow hall made darker with the tapestries absorbing the light. She continued through the guild looking for her target. It was hard to tell one orc from another, even though the person was only half-orc, it still had the distinctive markings of the orc. Watching from the shadows, she considered the different ways she could go about getting this task completed. The orc was busy cataloging inventory and writing it down amongst the several ledgers that were kept on the walls. Why anyone would want this orc dead, she did not know….neither did she care.

This day, and the next, she would trail the half-orc and find out what she was doing during the day, finding the perfect opening to make this individual disappear. It would take time and patience, but the end result would still be the same. Nothing can be found. Nothing can remain. This one must disappear without a trace. So it shall be done.

The target moved from the Merchant’s Guild to a three story house three blocks over with a red door. She went to the third floor, and entered the last door on the floor. It looked to be a makeshift apartment building that housed all the employees of the Merchant’s Guild. This way their boss can keep an eye on them and cut their pay since he houses them for free. Inside the room, she had everything she could possibly need. It was a rather large, roomy place, big enough for her family if she had one. There were three rooms she didn’t seem to use except for extra space. Her bed was nice sized, especially if she should have company. She cleaned up, ate and rested, falling asleep on her couch till the wee hours of the morning when she dragged herself to bed.

Before the break of dawn, there was a knock on her door, “Need you to come in early today. Wake up!” Grumbling, the orc got herself together and left her apartment, going back to the job she left late the night before. Following her back to the Merchant’s Guild, the mark talked to a few people that were in the building, finding that someone else was sick and she was stuck taking on their duties. She hated being a “favorite” of the boss, but anything he needed and she was always willing to take care of it. He took very good care of her.

There was nothing to note of her day. She stayed at work. Food was brought in so they didn’t have to leave so they could work continuously. They got fifteen minutes to eat their food, otherwise it was eat while you work. This seemed to be the normal procedure of this place, and few exceptions were made. There were times her schedule shifted, where she may get more time to eat than she did another day. One day she even got to leave the city and go for a trip to Devardec to run a few errands, seeing friends along the way. Seeing this as her routine, Kamala made a decision. She was going to get the girl the next out of town trip she made. She would leave and never return...as instructed.

After following her back to the city, she kept watch from a distance for days, waiting for her to get another trip called out of town. The days seemed to turn to weeks, and irritating her even more. While sitting there watching and waiting from the shadows, she considered the many ways to kill her, to dispose of the body as to never be seen again. Sitting in a room on the second floor looking down at the place of business as she twirled a dagger in each hand, she went over these ways in her mind.

Lost in thought, she saw a new person enter the business, “I need to see the Master here. I have business in Twilight that requires an envoy to see to it. I want someone right away. These must be delivered to my shop.” The man was loud and obnoxious, but surely the thing she was waiting for. After a few minutes inside, the target, Tagala, was leaving the building with a package in hand. Taking to the shadows, she followed her the entire way to Twilight silently. On the way she found a few places where she could put her plans into practice. The entirety of her plan was still yet to be envisioned. The idea of cutting her up into little pieces and feeding her in a stew to the members of the target’s guild was putting a smile on her face, but perhaps a bit too cruel.

Finally, the target completed her task. The package was delivered and she was making her way back, talking out loud about things she wanted to get done when she arrived back in Tranos, she walked off the main path and onto another which worked perfectly. Too bad she wouldn’t make it back home, she made a fatal mistake. There was no waste of time, she snuck up behind her, grabbed her hair and pulled it back as she sliced with her dagger deep and quick across her neck. The spray of blood outward was huge but in this area it wouldn’t be noticed much. She kept her hold on the head and continued with the slice going back, cutting deeper yet a third time until Tagala’s head was removed from her shoulders.

Laying the head on the ground, she pulled a bag out that was magically coated so it would not leak. She placed the head inside and started cutting up the body. Piece by piece she made it all small enough to fit into the bag, small enough for what she had in mind. Satisfied that she had every piece, she made her way back to Tranos still giving consideration about making her into a stew. If not to feed the people of the Merchant’s Guild, then perhaps the orphans in town. They were in need of food all the time. How gamey could orc be to eat? Instead of the food idea for the citizens of Tranos, not that they don’t deserve such care, she decided to feed the animals in the seas off the docks of Tranos instead. She picked up a fishing pole and went to the docks, sitting on the edge acting like she was fishing while tossing pieces of the body into the water. Slowly, a group of sharks pooled around beneath her taking the scent of blood. Making sure nobody was looking, she pulled the head from the bag and tossed it into the group of sharks, watching them fight over the meal handed to them. Satisfied with her venture, she tossed the bag she had used in the water, put the fishing pole down against the wall and left…..not to return.
