Wandering in ruins

Post by Aluzka »

After a bit of drinking with Fonix, the two decided to take a trip around in a new place for her. She had visited Orcish areas with Venis in the past, but never with the intention of hunting down some hydras. The Orcish ruins were plagued with several types of hydras which only helped with the ruinous look of the place. Every step had to be made carefully to not step on downed beams, twist an ankle on crumbled rocks that used to be buildings, let alone the animal excrement that could be found. Never did she think she would hear of enough bats gathering in a location to find piles of bat guano. Carefully trying to pick their way through the piles and rocks, they found a couple of battle hydras that went down without too much difficulty between them. Some of the slave pens they passed seemed to have been torn apart. Hard to tell if it was by their inhabitant or by other means. Either way, those souls were destined to die. Their trek through these ruins ended at the strangest lake that seemed to go on as far as the eye can see. There was no way to get across that considering undertow and the strange creatures that seemed to pass for fish that were within the waters. After further consideration, the two decided to return to the bar and visit Fonix once again for some more drinks.

Finding an open portcullis marking the cave entrance tot he hydra lair she decided to go forward and continue seeking through the lair. Her recon while Ermak was tending Assassin business was time well spent, since she didn't have other official duties to tend to like he did. She could wander as she saw fit without letting time pass by her unproductively. She made her way through the cavern, past piles of bat guano that squished under her boots, regretting the clean up of this adventure. She passed a chamber that seemed to be the sleeping quarters for hydras. She made sure she was stealthy and made her way through in shadows as not to wake or alert any within the room. Passing through large chunks of mica rock that seemed to have been gnawed upon, walking carefully through the gravel, not wanting to know exactly what was making up the gravel either. Beyond there, she found a tiny cave. It was surely not big enough for a hydra. As it was, she had to bend down to get inside this cave. It was a smalls pace, no more than two people could fit in here. Well, maybe three if they were small sorts. There was a ledge inside that seemed to be covered by spider webs. She marked that in here memory as a possible place of interest.

After a dangerous turn into the egg chamber where the hydras kept their young while waiting for hatching, Passing cautiously through this area, she came across more gravel covered areas. This led to a large chamber filled with this gravel on the floor. She started to make her way across the gravel filled chamber to find out what was on the other side when she put a light foot down on the gravel. She stopped instantly when feeling the gravel move and slide under her foot, hearing the slight crunch the gravel was making when it did so. She knew instantly that care was going to be needed to get across this room. In that case, she would need to change her shoes into something softer, lighter and study the floor a bit. That way she could try to find the best way across the floor without alerting any hydras in the area. Who knows how many times they patrolled this room, or the egg chamber nearby. Getting caught within this location would not bode well. However, the intentional placing of such a floor in this long room made her wonder even more.....what is on the other side of this room.

After a bit more searching, she came across a room that seemed to glow green beyond its opening. Thinking about it a tick, she finally decided to move forward and help out with anyone or any thing that attacks. She was again looking at the same type of room as the chamber for section of the caves. She was considering the item she sought and though that this patch of moss on the walls would work for hiding such an item. They would blend in rather well. She followed the course till she reached a dead end. A huge lake of river water stretched out in front of her as far as her eye could see. Sitting down on a rock, she noticed that there were some very ugly fish in this water, that the undertow was terrible through here. Someone would have to be an extremely good swimmer, have a death wish or carry the luck of Tazman himself to get through to the bottom if there was something there worth getting. Another place of interest.

Three areas that all held interest to her. She would have to go over them with Ermak later and see what he thought about these locations so they could be delved into further. This would give them a place to start on their journey.

She went back to the hydra caves, this time looking around the area that was known to be filled with Mystral hydras. The chambers she found were mostly filled with a blue grit, fine shavings of the wall of the cavern which is of the same blue. Each room seems to seem just like the last, minor changes being seen here and there. A few end suddenly, like whatever was actually drilling through here suddenly stopped from some reason and never returned. Perhaps it was the hydras, only they would know.

Finally the walls changed from blue to a crystal-like rock, though the floor was still covered with the grit of blue the others had as well. Passing through that room, she found more similar grit-filled rooms. Following them along a path, she finally came to a junction within the lair. There were three other exits, not including the one she had just come from. She went to the northwest and followed that path around, through the maze-like twists and turns. She followed it till she came across a room that had blood slicking the walls and floors. Something big seems to have been bleeding, dragging itself through here, possibly mortally wounded. The blood didn't seem too fresh, so it was most likely dead or weakened from its wound. Either way, she was going to have a weapon prepared to attack.

Just passed the blood covered room, she stumbled across another room with three alternative exits. Now she had to decide which way to go. First, though, she looked at the walls. They were blue tinged with streaks of white that looked like crystal. This crystal seemed, at times, to glow and shed light under its own power. Seems rather magical, which she knows nothing about really. As she was looking at this wall, yawns of tiredness started to overcome her. She had been working such long hours in the lab, she was getting tired. It would be nice once the medical staff arrived, then she could start working forward on her subjects.
