A Spire Rises

Walking the streets of Devardec, the Sun Child made his way towards the Plaza with a smile playing at his lips. The city engineers had met with him the day before and spoken about the progress of the Spire and how close they were to its completion. It had been some time since he had been out among the people in the capital as his time has been occupied by the rebuilding of Lyresong and the acts of diplomacy associated with that project.

As he entered the Plaza and turned his gaze to the south there she stood, a beautiful, flawless crystalline spire rising high above the white marble cathedral. The pinnacle of the spire had been carved and shaped into an opening rose. She is flanked on either side by sunstone towers with glass atriums adorning their peaks with flying walkway between the two. It was a sight to behold now that it was complete.

His pace quickened as he walked from the Plaza towards the new Cathedral of Light and his heart filled with pride and joy at the beauty that once more graced his kingdom. "Welcome home, Light" he whispered in a prayer to the Lady and her followers.

Approaching the new gardens out front of the cathedral his eyes caught on the fluttering golden butterflies that dance from flower to flower and his final worries were set at ease with the tinkling trickle of the waterworks. The head of the engineers, an elf by the name of Selwayn, met the Sun Child at the path, "M'lord, we are complete and ready for final inspection. All that remains is the marker stone which we hoped the Lady herself would place here." Selwayn indicated an empty paver spot in the walkway. Jarenmar smiled, "I think that would be perfect, Selwayn. Please, show me around."

Together they toured the grounds of the Cathedral. From the kitchens to the altar, nothing went unchecked. With a discerning eye, the Sun Child assessed the entirety of the new Cathedral and Spire. His smile broadened, "Selwayn, I believe you have done the impossible. Not a single thing out of place and all to my specifications. Well done indeed!" Selwayn blushed, her ear tips even turning red, "Thank you M'lord."

Returning to the castle and summoning his runners, the Sun Child sent word to the four corners of the land announcing that the Cathedral of Light has been completed and will soon be opened. He also sent a runner to Equinox and Makali, telling them of the coming events and the likelihood of interference from the unsavory element of the land. The runner's message contained details about security from now til opening day.

A young squire begins posting flyers all across Devardec. The elaborate artistry of the flyer immediately catches the eye with its bold colors and shimmering gold leafing. Across the face of the flyer, decorative text outlines information of an upcoming event.

It reads:
Hear ye, Hear ye
Come one and all to the opening of the new
Spire of Dawn
and Cathedral of Light
in the City of Devardec.
Sunday, January 18th
9PM GMT, 4PM Eastern, 1PM Pacific
