Ascension Tale: Elaina, Angel of Light

Elaina was the 2nd Immortal of Light

Elaina, Immortal of Light!
Story by Radiance

The day in the city of Devardec, in the realm of Terris, started out rather calmly for most. Everyone was out killing monsters, defending justice, creating chaos, loving, or doing whatever it was that they usually did, when suddenly thunder rolled in the distance and the clouds became more ominous. The clouds rolled over the city, blotting out the sun. People began to smell something burning nearby, and the city streets echoed with their wonder about what was going on. Lightning flashed as rain began to pelt the city, and thunder boomed!

The lightning in the city was so fierce, many died from its effects. So fierce was the lightning, that it streaked across the skies, flashing into the Spire of Dawn- causing the Spire to fall into darkness!

Soon, dark beasts converged around the Spire, attacking whomever they came across. Noelani, Mordorith, Antrim, Chadeaux, Hiver, Bogoken, Evarin, and others, and three of Light- Elwing, Sordain, and Archibald, rushed to defend the Spire, which was now an absence of Light. When entering the room, one stood in complete and utter darkness. One couldn't see the room around him, or even his hands in front of him. The crystal walls had fallen into darkness and gave off no light at all. There was a mournful silence there. Wave after wave of dark beasts attacked them.

Meanwhile, Norgoth cackled from his place in the heavens. Darkness! How he loved it! He sniggered as he turned the dead into walking undead. Cackling to himself, Norgoth then politely asked all Monks to destroy their faint spiritual lights and to serve the darkness! He then had his guild membership revoked by the Immortals, apparently once belonging to the Monks, and then to the Brotherhood. Shrugging, he mounted his slime and dared to enter the place where Light once ruled. Norgoth kneeled and thanked whoever created this utter darkness.

One of the undead, Gralth, then wailed to the world, "If it's dark how can the HoL guards see me sneaking in...?"

Someone answered that the Hall of Legend guards had magic that allowed them to see... so Norgoth set out to snuff the Light of the guards of the Halls of Legends, taking the bloody way to convince the elite guards of darkness.

Elaina, the Priestess and Heroine of Magic, then shouted to the world, "Norgoth it is not such an easy thing to end Light. Light exists in the Hearts and Minds of those who carry that torch! Even you cannot extinguish it!"

Norgoth scoffed and then moved to his cave of dark sighting to see where the guards of the Halls of Legends had hidden the last light.

Elaina then went to the Spire of Dawn to seek a solution to the darkness.

Meanwhile, Norgoth prepared another chant that he learned in the deepest dark, knowing that the time was right. One could hear the cries of the tortured Norgoth used for the dark chant...

Elaina shouted, almost to herself, "There has to be a way up from the spire... Where is the source of all Light?" getting desperate, she shouted, "Does anyone know?" Growing resolute, she then shouted, "I am going to find that Light source!"

Elaina mounted her crystal butterfly in preparation for the journey. The butterfly fluttered into the air, gaining height above Devardec. Elaina guided the butterfly upwards... aiming for the source of all Light. Passing Davar's crystal castle within the clouds, she moved ever higher. Norgoth glanced up from his dark chants nervously as he saw the butterfly flutter by. The butterfly continued up into the heavens, and the Light grew in intensity around the Priestess Elaina.

Elaina flew beyond, shielding her eyes from the glare, urging her butterfly on! Norgoth shouted out in pain as the Light grew in intensity.

The butterfly staggered as the Light heated its wings, turning them a bright red. Elaina, blistered and burned, closed her eyes in prayer to Davar for protection. Faint with exhaustion, Elaina summoned the Magic of Davar, casting a shield around her. "Father, I must do this! Hear me please!" she cried.

Elaina began to see visions of Alvogyl in all his former glory! With a faint cry, Elaina reached out a hand... Numb, breathless, and barely conscious, she was struck by a wave of pure Light! She screamed in agony and turned away, just as the butterfly exploded into a thousand crystal shards!

The crystal shards rained down upon Terris, causing destruction as they impacted the ground. The crystals seared through the sky, striking many in Terris dead. Meanwhile, Elaina tumbled ragged and broken, spinning into a funnel of Light. Her mind wandered, as her spirit drifted slowly within the Light, she watched her body falling far below.

Visions overtook her mind... Elaina saw a vision of Alvogyl standing courageous in a valley of lava. She remembered his words, promising to protect and serve the lands. She watches twenty years of bitter conflict, as, undaunted, he defends Light and good. In the vision, she recalls the story of Alvogyl standing over Vagma... She sees kindness and mercy in his hands, but strength of purpose in his eyes. Elaina looks up into the vision of his giant glowing visage, far above. Tears streaked down her face, as she watched the vision fade slowly back into the source of all Light.

Elaina's soul drifted in a sea of Light. Clarity and enlightenment overwhelmed her senses... understanding dawned... her vision cleared. With a gentle voice, Deori called forth Elaina's spirit. Reaching into the Light, Deori gently repaired Elaina's body and soul. To Elaina's back, he affixed a pair of glowing silver wings... her soul became bathed in Light! With a radiant smile for the blessings of Deori, Elaina bowed in reverence to the Creator. She slowly turned back to the heavens, flying with silver wings, to the destiny that awaited her.

Norgoth, defeated when Elaina found the source of all Light, wailed from his cave, "The Light... No!"

Kyria watched her tapestry unfold, following the threads of the mortals dead this day. With a smile, she noted the threads remain bright, a shining example of Deori's Mercy. A golden thread shone in the Tapestry, and alighted atop the icon of the Spire of Dawn. Investigating Deori's wonder, Kyria followed the thread, finding at the end Elaina, holding the mantle of Light. With reverance and a prayer for the guidance of Deori, Elaina accepted the mantle.

Many were waiting in the Spire of Dawn, after defending it with their lives. Their vigilance was rewarded. They heard a thunderclap and watched in awe as a Purple cloud of smoke appeared! The Lady Elaina, Angel of Light, fluttered from out of nowhere on silver wings, an ethereal aura of Light surrounding her.

The Spire of Dawn, which was still in darkness, would be relit later with the shards of the crystal butterfly, which the Guardians of Light, those who had remained faithful to the Lord Alvogyl and to the ideals of Light, found scattered about the lands.

The tapestry had been granted a new Immortal once more - by Deori's Grace, Elaina, Immortal of Light!

The Sun had set... for the last time it seemed,
You'd look in the sky and could not see its gleam,
And you think to yourself ,"What's this that I see?"
The darkness has let the demons run free!

So you race to the battle, defending your city,
With your armour all polished and your weapon so pretty,
But you can't find your way for the night is so thick,
You could practically run out and beat it with a stick.

And the Brave that have came fell prey to the dark,
All while Norgorth sits back laughing like a lark.
And he would take your brave body, turn it to undead,
Wow, what a pain you wished you could give to his head.

And all through this Chaos a few did stand true,
To hold out thier lights and light the way through,
So that more might come and stand at their side,
That darkness and light might once more collide.

But the struggle was great and they surely did fall,
And they would have failed except for One who saved all,
Her name was Elaina and she saw the carnage at hand,
She knew that now was the time to make a stand.

So she gathered some folk and made for the sky,
Up with her butterfly she traveled so high,
And prayed to Davar for the strength to make right,
And then she had the power to fight.

She banished the dark, brought peace with her hand,
The light was once more seen through the land,
The choice that was made I feel was right,
For now we have an Angel of Light.

So to those that still in darkness lurk,
Beware the sight that banishes murk,
And brings light to places that are eternally dim,
For if you go against Light, you will surely not win!
