The Dragon Treaty

Post by Silk »

The Dragon Treaty, as scribed by Treana...

On this day in the year 174, the Temple to Kyria was attacked by the Giant Red Dragon and her hoards. Many, many Kyrians died in the battles. She attacked because we had forgotten the pact made some twenty odd years ago with her.

Some of the details of the attack long ago are fuzzy, but it was for the same thing she came today. Kyrians hunting her children mercilessly for nothing more than laziness or gold. She will not tolerate that. She will attack us if we continue to do so and more Kyrians shall die.

The Dragon called for someone to speak to her and so chose Braxus, Yasmine and Treana to speak with. She made clear points Kyrians. There is no need to attack these dragons for no reason but sloth and greed. She is right in what she wants. She does not wish to attack us, for she loses children that way too.

There are ways to earn rewards for hunting these dragons offered in the lands. Over one hundred times we're told. That seems a bit much, but it should satisfy the urge in most. If not, perhaps we could find other things to hunt.

Lady Alhanna made the pact with the dragon in the beginning. With that knowledge we felt we should do our best to help re-instate that pact with the Dragon.

The mistake we made was to forget. And those three vowed not to let that happen again.

All Kyrians must uphold the vow of not slaughtering dragons needlessly, else we risk our temple and fellow Kyrian's lives. And before you say the temple is only mortar, Or how we could win any fight. Well we love the physical temple itself as much as it's ideals and will do anything we can to protect both. And no "we" could not win any fight. Often times there are only a few Kyrians about. And all Kyrians may not have the skills and powers you do. So unless you can be in the temple 'round the clock protecting it...well you are putting those lives at risk by your actions. Please think of that.

This is a long-standing pact. While some may not agree , it was set by our elders and now carried on with renewed knowledge.

Let us not also forget that Kyria has a couple of Dragons of her own. P'raps you have heard of Blackie and Nasher? Mayhaps this figures in as well. As we all know...Fate does work in mysterious ways.

Some 30 years later, Twiggie recorded the following...

We gathered in the Circle of Destiny… The large altar in the center of the room has been cracked in two. Pools of blood gather in spots on the floor. Many have died here, both friend and foe. Only an act of unity can restore this circle to its glory.

Sadly, this is what was left after the Giant Red Dragon attacked us. Upset that someone had broken our long-standing Treaty with her, she swarmed the Temple with dragons of all kinds. She grew even more red with anger when realizing that we would not fight them. We wanted to talk with her, but she would have nothing to do with it. Instead, with a single blast of her fire our corpses filled the Circle.

Long ago, in the year 174, this same powerful dragon was upset that so many Kyrians had needlessly slaughtered her and her kind; for nothing more than greed. In retaliation, she fiercely attacked our Temple. There was much bloodshed and many Kyrians lost their lives. Lady Alhanna stepped in and formed a pact with her. She vowed that no Kyrian would bring her or her kind harm in order to save our Temple from destruction and to end the taking of Kyrians lives.

Yesterday, we were honored by the visit of Sethra, Soothsayer of Fate, a Heroine of time past. She spoke to us of disturbing dreams that had awoken her. She had come to warn us that someone had broken the Treaty. The Giant Red Dragon, furiously angry with us, decided she would take Sethra as her trophy. With our sacred altar in shambles, we listened as Sethra told us that we must unite and find the symbols of our Temple to save her.

Bluebell, Farrah, Drakus, Silk, Polo, Froggor, Annabell-lee, Borric, Hagard, Lydia, Trebek and Twiggie quickly set out to find them. They found the Sheaf of Wheat hidden among its own kind in the fields. They made their way to the place where the Gods feast to find Pain's Sword. After climbing the mountain, they found the Wand of Fate amongst the dead flowers at the foot of the shrine.

Joined by Gunna-kill-ya and Carnige, the group returned to the Temple and the Kyrians bravely stepped before the Giant Red Dragon. Farrah offered the wand and explained the meaning of Fate, followed by Silk who spoke of what the sword represented, and then Hagard began to explain how the wheat symbolized Pleasure. Apparently impressed with their show of unity and convinced that they did indeed understand their meanings, a circle of lights flashed brilliantly, restoring the alter and uniting the Kyrians once again.

Sethra turned to the dragon and asked to be released vowing that all Kyrians be bound to never slay her kind for sloth or greed. She told the mighty dragon that we wished to reseal the pact. Seeing that they could work together for a good cause, the GRD agreed to renew our treaty as long as they agreed to teach others of it, and share with them her plight. She warned though that she would tolerate violations of it any further.

And so it was, in the morning of Day 4 of Hallow Month, in the year 204, the Dragon Treaty was renewed. With that, Sethra silently bid the Great Dragon farewell and returned to her abode to seek other visions.

Words to remember from Montalin...

The Dragon Treaty must be important to us for so many reasons other than simply worry over whether or not we will be attacked.

Remember, Fate, that the Treaty is an acknowledgement on our part and on the part of the Giant Red Dragon that we can respect one another. It is a sign of trust; if we break that trust we not only show disrespect for the other party involved in the treaty, we also show ourselves to not be worthy of the respect that we are shown.

Keep the treaty, not for fear, but for honor.
