Crisis of Faith

Post by sliper »

After the events had transpired, Sliper spent several days locked away in the Temple, wandering aimlessly, his emotions swinging like a pendulum from one extreme to the other, at times trembling with weakness, others times strengthened by rage, his mind wandering far beyond the Temple's walls as he indulged in its pleasures and pains. He spent time reflecting in Pleasure's pools, time battling in Pain's Arena. He was both trying to take his mind off of the recent events while simultaneously trying to make sense of them. This sense of inner turmoil and conflicting emotions was not new to him, but in many ways it sure felt so.

He pondered about what had happened, and the role he had played in it. He was hesitant, reluctant, even defiant when it came to letting Aras into the Temple. He knew it was a bad idea, he tried to stop it. And yet he did it anyway, and now must live with the results.

It had compelled him to question his faith, Fate itself. He questioned what he knew, what the tapestry was, each and every aspect of Fate. He had always believed we were all threads in the tapestry, but that our futures were not yet woven - indeed, our actions would determine how our thread's place as the tapestry continued to unfold. But he was not sure - allowing Aras into the Temple did not feel like his own action, although it was. It is the duty of members of Fate to protect the tapestry, and clearly he had failed that day. What did this mean? What did any of it mean?

As he wandered the gardens, he knew he would find no answers today.
