Metamorphosis

Post by Alyce Kiltspar »

Alyce sat quietly at her desk in Dominium, where she spent most of her time, trying to do work. Quill in hand she was signing orders, requests and decrees for various Dominium tasks. Suddenly her arms began to tingle, and loose feeling. Then her feet. She dropped the quill involuntarily. She suddenly felt whole body begin to shake and change. This had never happened to her before except when she willed it. Her entire body slowly began to get smaller and smaller, feathers began to pop from her skin. Her nose slowly merged with her mouth creating a hooked beak. Then, she had fully transformed. She was an eagle. She was shocked, and even worse she hadn't done this on her own. She stretched out her long glorious wings and closed her eyes trying to transform back, but the form would not come.

She swooped off her desk and out the window, then vaulted into the sky. She flew high overhead circling Dominium, watching the people as they worked in the quarry. She watched the guards march up and down the streets trying to keep the peace. She had a sudden urge to fly, high and far. She glided over the ocean, swooped past Devardec and finally resting on one of the branches of the Druid tree. She looked down at Farentil, and tried to say "Hello" but all that came out was a screech loud enough to make him cringe. So she took off again, this time landing within the temple of nature. She found a nice tree in which to build a nest. She gathered twigs and leaves and weaved herself a gigantic nest. The sun began to set, and she tucked her beak into her wing and fell fast asleep. She had hoped right before she fell asleep, that she would change back by morning.

....She was wrong.

When she awoke the following morning, she had changed, her feathers were jet black. Her eyesight wasn't as keen as it had been before, but her vision was still excellent. Alyce was very much afraid of what was happening to her. She didn't understand why or how she was changing, but she knew that the change was meant something beyond her knowledge. Deori, perhaps even Dagda had a plan for her, one that she could not see. Perhaps it was a message or a sign? Perhaps it was she who was changing, and not just in the physical sense. She had always been a kind, gentle soul. One who found solace in chaos and in peace, but it seemed as though chaos was changing her, it could be the only explanation... unless it was nature calling her. She decided it was time to figure it out, the problem was the communication barrier between mortal and raven. She would need to find someone who could translate for her.

Nature watches, knowing there are a number of druids who are able to transform into a raven, indeed this of all things are possible for the Immortal of Nature himself but at present Dagda does not feel inclined to intervene in the flow of creation. Curious to see how this plays out, watching from the garden of creation he waits.

Silver Moon Cloud once again has her nerves rattles by the load squawk reverberating through the guild.

“Alyce,” she mutters to herself as she calmed herself down.

For days now she had been seeing her guild leader locked in this metamorphosis. She desperately tried to help once to no benefit, trying to read Alyce’s mind. Only visions of worms and bugs came to a picture in her head.

Each time Alyce and Silver Moon Cloud pass the raven just darts off before the sprite can reach out and help. Silver is simply just left there wondering.
Then a thought came to her mind. Silver herself was once locked into another form. During her time in the Temple of Dreams the druid sprite was lost in a nightmare. She too was transformed into a raven.

Ever since that time, Silver Moon Cloud has been able to retain the knowledge and ability to shape herself back into a raven. She chooses to do so very little. She much preferred her furrier alter selves.

“This could work.” She thought, “Now how do I get her to stay still long enough?” She stroked the long salt-and-pepper feathers of a wing as she thought. She then had an idea as she recalled Alyce’s thoughts when she read her mind.

“Yes, that’s is.” She said with a sly smile. “Perhaps a little bait!”

Alyce was finding it increasingly hard to keep control over the raven the last few days. She loved being a bird. It was one of her most favorite forms, she would always spend as much time in those forms as she could and each time she was finding it more and more difficult to leave. So much so that she began to loose herself deep within the bird. She found herself flying more and more, but she had no control over the bird. There would be periods where the bird would completely take over, and Alyce had no idea what was going on. It was like sitting in a dark cell. When the bird finally rested it temporarily relinquished it's sight and movement. This was when Alyce was able to take over. She had found the bird to be quite intelligent and was able to repeat two or less syllable words. The words had to be interesting, but nevertheless she was able to talk, albeit not very well.

When the bird would fade, she would find herself around Devardec Plaza, there were plenty of things to eat off carts and people tossing leftover bread into the street, and there was no shortage of people offering her food. She took the food graciously because she couldn't hunt, however when the bird took control she had no idea what the form was doing. That was the scariest part.
