A Call to Action

Post by Kollin Byrne »

Kollin and Kriztina rode swiftly and silently from the fortress of Stonekeep towards the Knights’ Outpost. Their introductory meeting with Lord Bikon had taken an unexpected turn with the news of another citizen’s disappearance. Without hesitation, Kollin promised the help of the Knights in the search for the missing, and he was going to deliver.

They reached the outpost, left their pegasi with the stablehands, and Kollin approached the stablemaster. “Kelvian, can ya gather evraone inta the courtyard, there’s work ta be done.”

With a nod, the stablemaster went on with the task as Kollin and Kriztina went to the office.

“Those poor kids... What’s your plan,” Kriztina asked.

“We’ve more questions than answers...we need ta fix tha first,” Kollin said with a nod. He wrote down his thoughts on a parchment quickly in an attempt to get everything into order: The names of the missing, who they were last seen with, and when they disappeared.

Kriztina smiled softly as she watched him work. “I’ll be out with the others, don’t take too long in here.”

Kollin nodded, “shortly ah promise,” to Kriztina as she left.

After a few moments he left the office and made his way to the courtyard to address the assembled Knights.

“Alright evraone, we’re workin with Stonekeep on locatin two missin persons. Tha first is a miner named Duran. He was las seen leavin his shift ah the mines, an never made it home...he’s been missin fer over a week.”

“Tha second one is tha owner o a cobbler shop, Amicia. Reported missin by one o er sons jus taday, she’s been gone fer four days already.”

Kollin pauses for a moment and continues, “Ah want ya ta retrace their steps. Go ta the mine, talk ta the miners, an follow his path home. Talk ta tha miners wife. Look around Amicia’s shop, her home an anywhere in between. Look fer anythin out o place tha may o been missed. Find them, or ah least find more answers. Remember, we’re workin with tha guards o tha keep, share yer findins, an see wha else ya can get from em as well.”

“We’re doublin up on night patrols as well, we don know wha we’re dealin with yet, but we mus be ready fer anythin.“

Kollin salutes as he dismisses the Knights, “Be safe out there.”

Kollin looks to his wife as the crowd disperses and motions for two guards, “ya two, ahve a special mission for ya, check in on tha missing woman’s kids...make sure they’re safe an have evrathin they need. If they wish, we can accommodate them here.”

Seeing the guards off on their individual task with a salute, Kollin and Kriztina went back up to the office. She sat in a chair and rested while he sat at his desk. He wrote notes as he discussed the facts with his wife as he tried to figure out what else could be done. He couldn’t shake the feeling he was missing something.

“What dya mean ‘Nothin’,” Kollin asked, frustration apparent in his tone.

The squire stammered a bit before responding, “No one's found anything Sir...nothing new has been uncovered.”

Kollin shuffled through several documents with information on the disappearances. “So after evrathin, all we’ve done is verify tha little we know?”

“Yes sir, we spoke to co-workers and families of both of the missing, traced their routes and asked around...nothing new has come to light.”

Kollin sighed, “...wha about from Stonekeep, have we gotten any reports from them...ahm no seein em here.”

“No sir, they’ve been requested but we haven’t heard anything back yet.”

“Request ‘em again!”

“We’ve done it several….” The squire trails off as Kollin glares at him in a manner that could cut stone.

Kollin closes his eyes and takes a deep, calming breath. He opens his eyes and begins writing something quickly.

“Okay…” he starts to speak to the nervous squire as he writes, “This’s a request fer any information relatin ta tha disappearances tha Stonekeep has.”

When he finishes he seals it with the symbol of the Knights and hands it to the squire.

“Yer mission es ta hand this directly ta tha chancellor. No one else. Understood?”

The squire nods, “yessir, understood,” and salutes as he takes the letter.

Kollin smiles softly and returns the salute, “Good...on yer way then.”

The squire quickly exits the office leaving Kollin to his thoughts, which dwell on the missing persons families, and what the next steps are if the request bears nothing.
