Placing the Crown

Post by Rumor Mill »

Late in the evening a carriage rolled into Stone Keep and whisked a small dwarf into the Fortress of Stone Keep. Most of the streets were lined with citizens, attempting to just get a peak at Lord Stone's heir. Yet, the driver had strict orders to not stop until he reached the safety of the Fortress. He was still covered in sweat and filth that came with working in the nearby mines for most of his life.

Once in the Fortress, staff members made quick work of bathing the dwarf and preparing his new royal wardrobe. They dressed him quickly though he felt very uncomfortable in the attire, and he wondered how he was going to be able to swing a pick ax with the cloak they had just placed upon him. Once dressed he was lead to east tower where he stood just before a balcony. He stayed still, peering over the railing. This was all happening too fast he thought. Was he really ready to lead an entire city? What did he know about city politics, he was just a simple miner. A miner who's father founded a great dwarven city...

A staff member approached him with out stretched arms. In his hands was a veil lined chest that contained the Baronial Sceptre. The new heir slowly reached into the chest and grasped the sceptre, as a yet another staff member opened the curtain that blocked the Balcony's view. The sound of cheer roared up from the city below as the Heir to Stone Keep stepped out, revealing himself to the public.

Aoveron watched the new Lord of the Keep from the roof of the Lodge. Turning a piece of parchment over in his claw, he frowned in thought over the contents of the missive. He considered his options carefully.

Ever since he had heard the rumours, he had done some of his own research. Everything he could find confirmed that Bikon was the true heir of Lord Stone. So why did he hesitate? Would he be willing to work with this unknown dwarf? Would he be willing to step aside and let someone else determine the future of Stone Keep? The council was even quicker to proclaim their new Lord than they were to accept the return of Baron Streen.

After some thought, he realized there really was only one option. Bikon may be an unknown, but he represented hope, and true leadership for the city. With his help, Stone Keep could continue to flourish. Trade was already starting to slow down again. And despite all the craftsmen that had poured into the city, the damage from the Chaos Storms still hadn't been repaired. Former Baron or not, no one paid him any heed without some kind of legitimacy. With a formal decree, he could at least drag the wreckers and masons out of the bar.

His decision made, Aoveron turned to the page that had delivered the sealed note. "Return to Lord Bikon and tell him that I graciously accept his invitation and his offer. I will meet with him shortly in his office." Setting the parchment aflame with a flick of his wrist, he pulls a notebook out of thin air and begins writing some notes. He had a lot of plans to make, and he hoped some would bear fruit soon. If he was to be Chancellor, he would need to quickly produce results to have any hope of keeping the job.
