Madbaron’s Youth
Born in Devardec on Day 27 of First Harvest in the year 115 to human parents. Much of Madbaron’s history from the time of his birth until the age of 18 is known only to Vasari, the Goddess of Time. Madbaron himself cannot recall much of his early years due to a state of insanity which claimed his mind in his youth. From what’s been pieced together, the disappearance of his sister Trezza is the event that triggered Madbaron’s descent into madness.
“Trezza and I adventured together quite frequently in those days,” Madbaron remembers. “She was my younger sister, and I took her under my wing to teach her how to survive. We joined the Adventurer’s Guild together, and spent many hours in the training grounds there perfecting our skills.”
“One night, Trezza headed towards the moors to the north. She was on a quest to join a guild, I can’t remember which one now, but she never returned. The last place she was seen was at the inn in Wintertown. I went looking for her and became lost myself. I fell into a fit of despair. Some say I had gone mad. I wandered the Winter North Mountains for months, alone and insane.”
Those that encountered him wandering in the mountains came to call him the Mad Baron, for his real name was lost along with much of his memory. Exactly how he came to be called Baron is open to debate. Some say that it may be his actual name, or a variation. Other stories suggest that it is a title, and that Madbaron is in fact a lost member of some royal clan.
Along the Way
In the year 133, Madbaron found his way back to Devardec. In one of his more lucid moments, he joined the Monks Guild. In the Monks, he saw an opportunity to reclaim his mind and spirit from the darkness that engulfed them. “There I learned to temper my insanity through meditation,” says Madbaron. “By studying the Way of the Monks, I regained control over my thoughts and in the process regained control over my life. I found a family in the Guild that supported me and aided in my recovery.”
Madbaron’s early influences include Guildmaster Keraptis, Guild Lieutenant Monica, Grunjin, Rexington, Mitchellx, Quailitha, and Thebye.
From 158 until 165, Madbaron was a Sensei in the Monks Guild, instructing youngsters in the guild philosophy known as The Way. In 165 he was granted the position of Guardian of the Way for his influence in the teachings of the Guild.
Knights of Madness
After his return to Devardec in 133, Madbaron adventured throughout the land in the company of a rag-tag band of swashbucklers: Thebye from the Monks Guild, Sirrude from the Warriors Guild, Ax from the Warriors Guild, and Sulfur from the Warlocks Guild. Eventually, this group came to be known as the Mad Knights. With delusions of grandeur dancing in their heads, they formally declared the Mad Knights an official Household around the year 137. Madbaron was unanimously chosen to be the leader of the group. The Mad Knights currently are one of the largest and most active Households in the land, sponsoring many events and activities.
